At ITnews we care passionately about your rights as an individual. Data protection and privacy is not just a legal requirement, it is core to our policy of ensuring that we have happy readers.

  2. We are committed to trust in electronic business. During the course of our activities we may collect information from our readers that personally identifies individuals. This policy demonstrates our commitment to maintaining the privacy of all personal information we collect.

On occasion, such as member registration and reader surveys, we may ask you to identify yourself or another person in your organisation, and to provide contact details, including e-mail address, mailing address and telephone number, as well as other personal information such as your technical skills.

    You may also be asked to provide us with details about your web site and Internet business practices. This information may include the names and business contact details of some of your organisation’s personnel who are responsible for specified aspects of your business, and also names and contact details of your suppliers whose activities are relevant to your business.

  5. Visitors to the ITnews web site
  6. We do not collect any personal information from any visitor to our site unless that visitor intentionally and deliberately provides it. We do not gather any personal information from visitors who are simply browsing our site and under no circumstances do we collect any sensitive personal information related to racial or ethnic origin, criminal past, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership, health, or sex life.

    We welcome comments from the public about our site and about any Internet business we have certified. When a visitor sends such comments to us we collect the visitor’s e-mail address which we use to respond. Depending on the nature of these comments we may request additional information such as the visitor’s telephone number and mailing address.

    As mentioned above, from time to time we may conduct surveys to request information and opinions from visitors to our site. Participation in these surveys is completely voluntary and visitors may decide whether or not to disclose any information.

  7. Use of your personal information
  8. We may, such as during the course of member registration or reader surveys, include your name, e-mail address and other contact details in a register and occasionally send you information about our activities.

  10. We do not use cookies to determine a visitor’s identity or to track a visitor’s browsing patterns. We do, however, use cookies to control ITnews features and functions available to visitors. These cookies are restricted in that they do not identify the visitor.

  12. We have measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and unauthorized alteration of all information under our control. We audit our practices within the requirements set out in British Standard BS 7799:1999, the Code of Practice for Information Security Management Systems, and take appropriate corrective actions for any inadequacies we detect.

    All servers on which we store or process personal information are maintained in a secure environment. We restrict access to personal information to our personnel and assigned assessors who need the information to perform a specific task or job.
